Created in France in 1986 and present in Belgium since 1992, Homesitting is a company whose aim is to offer homeowners protection for their property from vandalism and burglary. This protection service is offered by trusted, retired, voluntary people living in the property during the homeowners absence. Our network is spread mainly through Belgium, France and Switzerland. We work on the principle of an exchange of services based on mutual trust and confidence, established within well-defined rules.
Normally homeowners leave access to their entire property with occasionally the exception of one room. If the homeowner wishes a particular task to be full filled then this will have been noted on our questionnaire and a copy will have been passed on to the temporary occupants. Any task that does not fall into the normal daily tasks (guarding the house, taking care of the rooms used, taking in the mail, taking telephone messages, watering plants and looking after animals) must be well defined before the homeowners leave to avoid any miss-understanding.
The homeowners should always wait to meet the temporary occupants in order to brief them on how the house functions and equally return home before our helpers leave.
The temporary occupants are lodged, with heating and lighting, free of charge. All telephone and transport costs rest the responsibility of the temporary occupants. Please note that for the temporary occupants it is not a job therefore no remuneration is authorised and also no transport costs can be claimed either from the homeowners or Homesitting.
